DESCRIPTION:
Many aerodynamic flows are gov
erned by coherent vortical structures\, yet force generation in turbulent
and separated regimes remains difficult to interpret and model. This talk
presents recent work on extending the vortex force map framework to captur
e the effects of turbulence and separation\, with the aim of establishing
the physical basis for future reduced-order models with appropriate turbul
ent corrections. Building on this framework\, I will show how vortex-based
analysis reveals the mechanisms of passive flow control in slotted wings\
, semi-aeroelastic hinged-wing analysis\, and discuss how the same ideas c
an support the development of machine-learning surrogate models for fast\,
physically grounded prediction of complex aerodynamic flows.
