DESCRIPTION:Wildfire is a natural hazard of increasing impact whose behavi
 our is governed by fluid mechanics\, heat transfer and chemical kinetics. 
 Ignition and spread arise from the transfer of energy by conduction\, conv
 ection\, radiation\, within complex\, porous biomass fuels undergoing char
 ring and across multiple scales.\nThis seminar frames wildfires as thermoc
 hemical systems. It examines the combustion processes underlying ignition\
 , the distinction between fine and coarse fuels\, the effect of wind\, fir
 ebrands\, and the role of smouldering combustion. By interpreting wildfire
  dynamics through thermochemistry\, it provides a framework for understand
 ing wildfire behaviour and for improving predictions\, and protection.\n
