DESCRIPTION:Liquid water on top and beneath ice sheets flows through porou
s networks whose permeability evolves due to freezing or melting induced b
y the water flow itself. When freezing occurs\, any water infiltration can
be self-limiting\, for example leading to the formation of internal solid
ice structures within snowpack. Where flow leads to melt\, positive feedb
ack leads to patterning\, generating large thawed channels. I'll describe
some examples of these systems\, efforts to model them\, and their relevan
ce in understanding the future evolution of ice sheets.
