DESCRIPTION:When I set up 55 years ago my major goal was to un
derstand how insulin stimulated the synthesis of g
lycogen and other metabolic events\, which was at
that time was largely a 'black box'. Eventually\,
when the outlines were clarified 25 years later\,
I began to search for another black box to work on
\, which led me to study how the innate immune sys
tem is regulated by the interplay between protein
phosphorylation and protein ubiquitylation. In the
talk I will focus on how my recent studies on the
role of ubiquitylation in regulating immunity hav
e unexpectedly led me to return to the field of gl
ycogen metabolism where my career began.\n\nTalks
are priced at £4 for non-Scientific Society member
 s. Scientific Society members will have free acces
s to all our talks. Lifetime membership costs £15
and gives free access to all talks\, members-only
events and priority access to oversubscribed SciSo
 c events.\n
