DESCRIPTION:Perhaps it's not emphasised often enough that many of the intr
 icacies in the quantum description of the world has to do with the fact th
 at we can add and multiply particles\, or any collection of objects for th
 at matter\, thereby providing a modern perspective on the ancient dictum t
 hat 'all is number'. In this lecture\, I will discuss these two mysterio
 us operations and\, as a bonus\, why the precise relation between them is 
 the crux of the efficiency of quantum computing.
