DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Almost everything you know about university coding p
 rojects – short duration\, small teams\, stable requirements and clean d
 ata – has no relevance to the majority of IT work in commercial organisa
 tions.  In this presentation we’ll introduce the concepts of Metadata an
 d Data Governance\, and how they can be applied to help companies manage t
 heir sprawling\, complex and imperfect systems more effectively. We’ll t
 ouch on what makes Metadata Management technically interesting as a discip
 line and discuss how something that might be regarded as a necessary chore
  can be made more valuable than that.\n\nSpeaker Details: James Wyper is a
  Technical Account Manager at Ab Initio Software.  His role involves worki
 ng with existing and prospective customers to help them understand the cap
 abilities of the Ab Initio platform and ensure that they are getting the m
 ost out of their investment in it.  He graduated from Cambridge back in th
 e days when the computer room at Sidney Sussex still contained BBC Micros 
 and prior to joining Ab Initio designed and built IT systems for a major U
