DESCRIPTION:In this talk I would like to present the LEWIS project. Lookin
g into the\nfaintEst WIth MUSE (LEWIS) is an ESO large program\, granted w
ith 133.5hrs with\nMUSE@ESO-VLT.\, is the first homogeneous integral-field
spectroscopic survey of\n30 extremely low-surface-brightness (LSB) galaxi
es in the Hydra I cluster of galaxies\,\nwhere the majority of LSB galaxie
s in the sample (22 in total) are ultra-diffuse\ngalaxies (UDGs). Because
of their LSB nature\, getting spectroscopic data for UDGs is\na challengin
g task. To date\, as opposed to the availability of deep images\, we still
lack\na statistically significant sample of UDGs with spectroscopy\, whic
h strongly limits our\nconstraints and conclusions on their stellar popula
tions and DM content. Doubling\nthe number of spectroscopically studied UD
Gs\, with the LEWIS project we will make\na decisive impact in this field.
With LEWIS we will map\, for the first time\, i) the 2D\nstellar kinemati
cs\, ii) the stellar population and iii) established the GC population and
\ntheir specific frequency of a complete sample of UDGs in a galaxy cluste
r with IF\nspectroscopic data. The structural properties together with the
baryonic versus DM\nfraction are used in comparison with hydrodynamical m
odels of UDGs to establish\ntheir formation channels as a function of thei
r location in the cluster.\nWith LEWIS we are probing the MUSE capabilitie
s to map the galaxy structure\ndown to the faintest surface brightness lev
 els.
