DESCRIPTION:This paper discusses the problems of assessing Cit
izenship\, a subject which is perceived by many te
achers as unconventional\, and by some\, as unasse
ssable. The value of assessing Citizenship will be
considered in the context of the findings from an
empirical study conducted in secondary schools ac
ross England. The challenge for Citizenship educat
ors is the need for meaningful assessments that re
late to the beliefs and values under discussion in
  lessons.
