 esteemed academic recognised as one of the founders of the political ecolo
 gy movement. He is an eminent thinker on issues of development\, environme
 ntalism and natural disaster.\n\nIn 2006 he was included as a key thinker 
 in the book\, ‘Fifty Key Thinkers on Development’\; in 2008\, his life
 time of academic work was acknowledged in a special issue of Geoforum maga
 zine\, “In honor of the Life Work of Piers Blaikie” (39:2\, March 2008
