DESCRIPTION:At this session of the NLIP Reading Group we’ll be discussin
g the following paper:\n\nBrian Murphy and Carl Vogel. 2007. "The syntax o
f concealment: reliable methods for plain text information hiding":http://
 clic.cimec.unitn.it/brian/publications/murphyVogel07SyntaxConcealmentIH.pd
 f. In Proceedings of the SPIE International Conference on Security\, Stega
 nography\, and Watermarking of Multimedia Contents.\n\n*Abstract:*\nMany p
lain text information hiding techniques demand deep semantic processing\,
and so suffer in reliability. In contrast\, syntactic processing is a more
mature and reliable technology. Assuming a perfect parser\, this paper ev
aluates a set of automated and reversible syntactic transforms that can hi
de information in plain text without changing the meaning or style of a do
cument. A large representative collection of newspaper text is fed through
a prototype system. In contrast to previous work\, the output is subjecte
d to human testing to verify that the text has not been significantly comp
romised by the information hiding procedure\, yielding a success rate of 9
6% and bandwidth of 0.3 bits per sentence.
