DESCRIPTION:In their foundational paper\, Nikolaus--Scholze proved that th
e category of bounded below genuine cyclotomic spectra is equivalent to th
e category of bounded below Borel cyclotomic spectra.&nbsp\; In this way\,
they excised the complications of genuine equivariance from the study of
topological cyclic homology.&nbsp\; I will explain joint work with Devalap
urkar\, Raksit\, and Yuan\, which proposes that genuine equivariance still
has an essential role to play.&nbsp\; Time permitting\, I may also discus
s how this perspective interacts with the arithmetic duality of Rognes' ta
lk or the equivariant motivic categories of Bachmann's talk.
