DESCRIPTION:The capability to image single molecules has revol
utionised biology. I will explain how these method
s work and how we are currently applying them to
study the molecular basis of neurodegenerative dis
ease. Lastly I will describe how our early single
molecule work on DNA polymerase led to the devel
opment of next generation DNA sequencing\, now wi
dely used\, and the lessons that can be learnt fro
 m this experience.
