DESCRIPTION:*Host* Prof. David Edwards\n\n*Abstract* The increasing availa
bility of global gridded climate datasets derived from weather stations ha
s advanced research on the links between organisms and climate. However\,
most organisms experience conditions that differ substantially from those
measured by weather stations. This seminar will cover the methods of predi
cting microclimatic conditions that organisms experience and of ecological
responses to climate change using a range of examples. Alongside this\, n
ovel temperature regimes will be explored in regards to underneath the wor
ld’s tropical forest canopies as species shift predictions may be wrong
if climate data used do not reflect microclimatic conditions. \n\n*Biograp
hy* Ilya Maclean is Professor of Global Change Biology and Associate Direc
tor of the University of Exeter’s Environment and Sustainability Institu
te. He has worked on ecological responses to climate change since 2004. Mu
ch of this time has been spent trying to figure out how to model the micro
climatic conditions experienced by organisms and what this tells us.\n\n*P
lease note the seminars are for University Of Cambridge members ONLY.*
