DESCRIPTION:The existence of Earth-like Habitats\, i.e.\, temp
erate rocky exoplanets hosting Earth-like N2-O2-do
minated atmospheres with minor amounts of CO2\, de
pends on certain astrophysical\, geophysical\, and
\, potentially\, biochemical criteria that must be
met to allow for their evolution and environmenta
l stability. One essential factor for the emergenc
e and evolution of Earth-like atmospheres is a pla
net's host star. Its radiation and plasma environm
ent may affect atmospheric stability to such an ex
tent that it can even render its existence unlikel
 y. Furthermore\, microbial life may be another par
ameter needed to allow for the simultaneous existe
nce of atmospheric O2 and N2 over geological times
cales\, making an N2-O2-dominated atmosphere with
minor amounts of CO2 a potential sign of life to b
e present on such a planet. I will address these a
nd further important parameters relevant to the ev
 olution of Earth-like atmospheres. First\, I focus
on the terrestrial planets in our Solar System an
d then apply our understanding of their atmospheri
c evolution to assess the prevalence of Earth-like
Habitats in the Galaxy and around stars of differ
 ent spectral types.
