SUMMARY:Drosophila in context: evolution\, toxins\, and behaviour - Dr Jus
 tin Crocker from EMBL Heidelberg

DESCRIPTION:The Crocker group takes an integrated path to explore the gene
tic basis of complex traits\, focusing on gene regulation\, combining the
rich ecological histories of fruit flies worldwide\, and integrating it wi
th cutting-edge lab experiments. We use a combination of “synthetic evol
ution\,” based on large-scale synthetic DNA libraries\, synthetic pertur
bations to genomes\, and controlled evolution experiments on Drosophila fl
 ies. Combinations of genomics\, proteomics\, metabolomics\, and behavior a
re used to study genotype-to-phenotype relationships concertedly. This app
roach provides a comprehensive view of gene-regulatory evolution at the or
ganismal level to explore how these systems evolve across different enviro
 nments.
