DESCRIPTION:We will illustrate the versatility of Shannon entr
opy as a tool providing insight into central basic
questions in several fields of pure mathematics\,
through four instances (among many more choices):
the central limit theorem (probability)\, the str
 ucture of union-closed families (combinatorics)\,
the structure of sets of integers with small sumse
t (number theory)\, and bounds on volumes of sets
depending on those of their projections (geometry)
 .
