DESCRIPTION:The problem of diffraction of a waveguide mode by a transversa
 l Dirichlet strip is considered. It is shown that this problem can be form
 ulated as a 4&times\;4 matrix Wiener-Hopf problem\, where the kernel may b
 e reduced to a 2&times\;2 factorisable matrix in the symmetric case. The a
 pplicability of the iterative Wiener-Hopf method for the kernel in the gen
 eral case is investigated. A numerical method is applied to derive the sol
 ution in terms of the tailored lattice Green's function.
