DESCRIPTION:Elliptic surfaces are a wide and varied class of s
urfaces\, with many tools and theorems from the th
eory of elliptic curves that can be used to study
them. In this talk I will introduce some of the ma
in theory and ideas about elliptic surfaces\, and
show how they can be applied\, together with some
Galois cohomology\, to obtain elements of the Brau
er group\, which can then be used to give examples
of Brauer-Manin obstruction\, a method to show th
 e nonexistence of rational points.
