DESCRIPTION:*Abstract*\n\nTropical forests are increasingly threatened by
human- and climate-induced disturbances\, yet carbon dynamics of this biom
e remain uncertain due to a lack of long-term spatial observations. Here\,
we quantified above-ground biomass dynamics in tropical forests during 19
90-2020 using a new bookkeeping approach that tracks biomass C losses and
subsequent gains following disturbances\, with spatially-explicit recovery
curves.\n\n*Bio*\n\nYidi Xu is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laborator
y for Climate and Environmental Sciences in France\, focusing on forest bi
omass loss and recovery following disturbances using Earth observations. S
he received her Ph.D. from Tsinghua University\, where her doctoral resear
ch developed a framework that used remote sensing data and process-based m
odelling to map oil palm expansion across Southeast Asia and assess its im
pact on the regional carbon cycle.
