DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will outline developments over the
last year within scientific facilities and platfor
ms at the School of the Biological Sciences (SBS)
with an emphasis on providing a practical update t
o access\, organisation and future strategic direc
tion. SBS currently includes around 40 facilities
recharging for services that involve around 100 st
aff and 50 full time posts loosely organised acros
s departments and institutes and\, in some cases\,
separated geographically. Bringing a greater awar
eness of what facilities we have available and how
they interact has the potential to significantly
improve both access and sustainability in speciali
sed services and collaborations that underpin much
of the SBS academic vision. I will also place thi
s project in context with other relevant projects
at West Cambridge and in the central University\,
highlighting how we are joining up areas of activi
ty to avoid incompatibility or duplication of effo
 rt. \n
