DESCRIPTION:Patients with similar tumour types can have markedly different
responses to the same therapy. The development of new treatments would b
enefit significantly from the introduction of imaging methods that allow a
n early assessment of treatment response in individual patients\, allowing
rapid selection of the most effective treatment. \n\nWe have been develo
ping non-invasive and clinically applicable magnetic resonance-based metho
ds for detecting the early responses of tumours to therapy. Primarily\, t
hese are methods for detecting tumour cell death\; the level of tumour cel
l death following drug treatment is a good predictive indicator for treatm
ent outcome. By monitoring tumour cell death we may get an indication of
whether a particular drug is working very early during treatment\, possibl
y within 24-48 hours\, and long before there is any evidence of tumour shr
 inkage \n
