DESCRIPTION:This talk will form an interface between celebrating Tom's the
 oretical research and the final session on reminiscences. From his early d
 ays at the Cavendish here in Cambridge\, I have interacted with Tom as som
 eone who was a soft matter experimentalist but also as someone making the 
 journey from Physics to the interface with Biology. I will look back at ho
 w much difference he made to me and to the community as a whole.
