DESCRIPTION:In a series of seminal paprs\, Aluffi and Faber computed the d
 egree of the PGL(3)-orbit closure of plane curves\, extending the work of 
 Enriques and Fano on PGL(2)-orbit closures of points on a line.&nbsp\; I w
 ill describe joint work with Anand Patel and Dennis Tseng that recasts the
 se\, and similar problems\, using equivariant cohomology.&nbsp\; As an app
 lication\, I will obtain that the PGL(4)-orbit closure of a general cubic 
 surface has degree 96120.
