DESCRIPTION:This will be the fourth of a prestigious series of lectures he
 ld in commemoration of the life and work of Edith Rebecca (Becky) Saunders
  who made major contributions to the understanding of genetics and heredit
 y at the beginning of the 20th century. Saunders entered Newnham College i
 n 1884\, continued her postgraduate research as a Bathurst student from 18
 88 to 1889\, and later became the director of the Balfour Biological Labor
 atory for Women in 1899. She was Director of Studies for Natural Sciences 
 at Newnham between 1918 and 1925 and President of the Genetical Society fr
 om 1936-1938.\n \nWe are delighted to welcome Professor Dame Caroline Dean
 \, Royal Society Professor at the John Innes Centre\, Norwich as our speak
 er for the 2024 Saunders Lecture. The title of Caroline's talk is “Co-tr
 anscriptional and memory mechanisms registering winter.”\n\nIn addition\
 , we will a hold a ceremony to unveil Genetics Society Blue Plaques honour
 ing Edith Saunders and William Bateson. As well as a Blue Plaque to celebr
 ate the Nobel prize work completed by Sir Martin Evans in the Department o
