DESCRIPTION:Speaker biography:\nThomas Höfer is professor of theoretical 
 systems biology at the University of Heidelberg and heads a research group
  at the German Cancer Research Center. After studying biology and physics 
 in Berlin\, he did his DPhil in applied mathematics with Philip Maini in O
 xford\, where he was Jowett Senior Scholar at Balliol College from 1994 to
  1996. \n\nThomas then returned to biological research institutes\, in Ber
 lin\, Paris and\, since 2007\, in Heidelberg. His group studies the quanti
 tative laws of clonal evolution in hematopoiesis\, immune responses and th
 e development of cancer\, engaging in fruitful collaborations with experim
 entalists. In 2020 he was elected fellow of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy
  of Sciences.
