 tory. It has also fuelled intense interest in the field of artificial inte
 lligence and has raised awareness of the rapid progress in machine learnin
 g over the last few years. This talk will introduce fields of generative A
 I and machine learning for a broad audience and will offer some thoughts o

  is a Technical Fellow and Corporate Vice President at Microsoft where he 
 leads the global Microsoft Research AI for Science team. After a PhD in th
 eoretical quantum physics\, he spent 8 years working on the physics of nuc
 lear fusion before moving into the field of machine learning 35 years ago.
  He is a Fellow of the Royal Society\, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of En
 gineering\, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh\, and a Fellow of D
