DESCRIPTION:Population data are often found\, for example\, while analysin
 g linguistics\, historical demography\, social media behaviours\, or a fle
et of machines. Statistical hierarchical modelling is a powerful technique
that enables us to model data originating from a population. By modelling
data at multiple levels\, this technique systematically formulates the da
ta in its natural form of origin. The benefits of these techniques are hig
hlighted in this talk through examples of applications in industrial engin
eering\, and a variety of applications across humanities research are also
  discussed.
