DESCRIPTION:We present new analysis of the X-ray spectra of the Seyfert 1
galaxy NGC 3516 as seen by the XMM-Newton RGS and EPIC-pn in recent observ
ations\, with the emphasis put on high resolution spectroscopy. NGC 3516 s
hows interesting spectral and flux variability during four observations in
2006\; we investigate whether this is due to absorption by the warm absor
ber and/or is intrinsic to the source emission. We show that the passage o
f an absorbing cloud\, part of a clumpy disk wind model\, is unable to acc
ount for this variability. Intrinsic changes in the source continuum are f
ound to play a much more significant role in explaining the observed flux
and spectral variability than originally thought for this AGN.
