DESCRIPTION:This year we organise a series of lectures on _Geographies of 
 Russia_. It will showcase various aspects of geography\, covering environm
 ental issues\, socio-economic and cultural geography\, the geography of th
 e Arctic and the culture of the indigenous peoples of Siberia. We are invi
 ting well-known geographers from Russia\, Britain and other countries.\n\n
 Delighted to invite you to inaugural lecture from the Geographies of Russi
 a series curated by Dr Olga Tutubalina\, a Visiting Scholar at the Univers
 ity of Cambridge and a CamRuSS Trustee.\n\nThe first lecture _“Climate C
 hange in Russia”_ will be delivered online on Friday\, 24 March from 18:
 00 to 20:00 by Alexander Chernokulsky\, a well-known Russian climatologist
 \, researcher and scientist. The talk will be in Russian with slides in En
 glish. \n\nAlexander Chernokulsky is a lead author and co-author of more t
 han 15 books and book chapters\, and a lead of several scientific projects
 \, member of the editorial board of the journals Atmosphere and Pure and A
 pplied Geophysics\, Laureate of the RAS Prize and the Moscow Government Pr
 ize for Young Scientists\, Scientific Secretary of the Scientific Council 
 of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the problems of the Earth’s climat
 e\,  Deputy Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the Russian Aca
 demy of Sciences\, and a champion of climate science outreach. In 2005 Ale
 xander graduated from the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University 
 specialising in Hydrometeorology. In 2010 he was awarded a PhD in Physics 
 of the Atmosphere and Hydrosphere. Since 2002\, Chernokulsky has been work
 ing at the A.M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics RAS. Alexander ha
 s authored over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals on climate change an
 d weather hazards.\n\nThis lecture will present modern scientific views on
  the ongoing global and regional climate changes (with a focus on Russia) 
 and their consequences\, as well as the causes of these changes. In partic
 ular\, factors of climate variability (natural and anthropogenic) will be 
 considered. Key evidence of the anthropogenic nature of modern climate cha
 nges will be presented\, and forecasted estimates of future climate change
 s will be discussed. Alexander will explain the main differences between c
 limate forecast and weather forecast and dismantle some “climate myths
