DESCRIPTION:We consider an undetermined coefficient inverse pr
oblem for a nonlinear partial differential equatio
n occuring in high intensity ultrasound propagatio
n as used in acoustic tomography.\n \;\nIn par
ticular\, we investigate the recovery of the nonli
nearity coefficient commonly labeled as $B/A$ in t
he literature\, which is part of a space dependent
coefficient $\\kappa$ in the Westervelt equation
governing nonlinear acoustics.\n \;\nCorrespon
ding to the typical measurement setup\, the overpo
sed data consists of time trace measurements on so
me zero or one dimensional set $\\Sigma$ represent
ing the receiving transducer array.\nIn this talk\
, we will dwell on topics like modeling\, uniquene
ss\, numerical reconstruction schemes (in particul
ar based on Newton type methods) as well as simult
aneous reconstruction of $\\kappa$ and the sound s
peed. If time permits\, we will also show some rec
ent results pertaining to the formulation of this
problem in frequency domain and numerical reconstr
uction of piecewise constant coefficients in two s
pace dimensions.\n \;\nThis is joint work with
