DESCRIPTION:Verification of spent nuclear fuel is a prerequisi
te for disposal in a geological repository. The ve
rification method needs to be reliable and quick a
nd allow non-destructive investigation of the fuel
assemblies to ensure the integrity of the fuel pr
ior to disposal. Recently IAEA has approved Passiv
e Gamma Emission Tomography (PGET) to be used as a
tool in rod-level examination of assemblies. In t
his talk\, I&nbsp\;propose a method based on simul
taneous reconstruction of activity and attenuation
images with sufficient prior information\, formul
ating the reconstruction as a constrained minimiza
tion problem with a data fidelity term and regular
ization terms.&nbsp\;The approach is shown to&nbsp
\;produce clear reconstructions which allow for a
highly reliable classification of spent\, missing\
, and fresh fuel rods. Several reconstruction exam
ples from measured data will be presented in the t
 alk.
