DESCRIPTION:Understanding the mapping between the luminous and
the dark matter is one of the primary goals of mo
dern cosmology. This connection is at the crux of
our understanding of galaxy formation and forms a
critical step in the pathway leading from high pre
 cision cosmological observations\, to constraints
on the parameters defining that cosmology. In this
talk\, I will present recent work on furthering o
ur understanding of the galaxy-halo connection usi
ng survey data alongside new and upcoming cosmolog
ical simulations. I will discuss some of the avenu
es in which cosmological simulations can help info
rm galaxy-halo models better\, and some areas wher
 e they currently fall short.
