DESCRIPTION:Particulate composites include concrete\, tyre rub
ber\, plastic explosives and certain brands of con
fectionery. The effect of the microstructure of th
ese materials on their large-strain deformation pr
operties is by no means a closed book - whilst mod
ern computational power does allow researchers to
plug volumetric models wholesale into finite eleme
nt codes\, there is still a role for experiment to
play. Here\, some experiments into the effect of
fill-density and particle size are reported.
