DESCRIPTION:To mark the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science
\, Lucy Fellow Dr Shona Wilson will be speaking about her research. Schist
osomiasis is a debilitating\, sometimes fatal\, parasitic worm infection t
hat chronically afflicts some 200 million people in many of the world’s
poorest countries. Effective drug treatment is available\, but in schistos
omiasis endemic areas\, reinfection occurs rapidly after treatment\, espec
ially in children. Dr Wilson works in collaboration with research groups i
n Tanzania and Uganda to analyse the relationships between environmental f
actors and age-dependent immunity and to understand the IgE mediated respo
nses essential to combating the major parasitic and allergy-related health
challenges in both the developed and developing world.\n\nPlease register
