DESCRIPTION:In many applications of surveillance an image of ground moving
target is needed to classify or recognise them. Forming well-focused rada
r images of moving ground targets in the presence of strong clutter is a v
ery challenging problem that can be solved when using multi-dimensional ra
dar systems (multi-channel). A sub-optimum method has been proposed that c
ombines Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) with Inverse Synthetic Apert
ure (ISAR) imaging. This approach introduces and exploits a reformulation
of the STAP approach in the Doppler domain (SDAP) to allow for standard IS
AR processing to be applied to the SDAP-filtered data. After a short revie
w of this method\, open problems are illustrated\, such as the possibility
to find improved solutions to the sub-optimal solution and the possibilit
y to extend the multi-dimensionality to the fully-polarimetric case\, whic
h would\, in theory\, improve the target-clutter separability and therefor
 e\, improve the image quality.
