DESCRIPTION:I take `multiple scattering' to mean problems in which waves i
nteract with two or more objects. The prototypical problem is: solve the H
elmholtz equation (acoustics\, sound waves of a single frequency) outside
two objects\, with a boundary condition on each object and at infinity (ra
diation condition). I will discuss formulation of boundary value problems
and methods for solving them: there are exact methods (in principle\, at l
east) and approximate methods (such as Foldy's method).
