DESCRIPTION:Research conducted over the last two decades has identified fi
nancialisation as a defining feature of the global political economy in th
e neoliberal era. The growing power of financial actors to shape the behav
iour of non-financial firms\; the reconceptualization of the firm as a bun
dle of assets\; and an increasing focus on exploiting intangible assets\,
in particular intellectual property rights\, has led to what many deem to
be a new era of “rentier capitalism”. \n\nThis seminar will present wo
rk discussing the applicability of these concepts and exploring how financ
ial and institutional contexts shape the business strategies of diagnostic
s firms and ‘big pharma’ on either side of the Atlantic.\n\nThis is th
e last in this term's Sociology Seminar Series\, please find details of al
 l events here: https://www.sociology.cam.ac.uk/files/sem_series_correct_mi
