DESCRIPTION:The eleven year solar activity&nbsp\;cycle is a remarkable exa
mple of regular behaviour emerging from an extremely turbulent system. The
origin of this behaviour is a dynamo that involves the complicated intera
ction of rotation\, turbulence and magnetic field.&nbsp\;An outstanding pr
oblem of astrophysics and mathematical physics &nbsp\;is how to describe t
he statistics of systematic behaviour&nbsp\;emerging from the underlying c
haos\, given that simulation of astrophysical objects is simply impossible
. Here I shall introduce these fascinating dynamo phenomena and describe m
odern methods for tackling these interactions over vast ranges of spatial
 and temporal scales.
