outbreaks - Professor Philippe Lemey from Clinical and Epidemiological Vir
 ology Rega Institute\, K.U. Leuven

DESCRIPTION:I will provide an overview of Bayesian phylodynamic developmen
ts that have proven useful to investigate the evolutionary and epidemiolog
ical dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 and that could also support genomic surveillan
ce of other respiratory viruses such as RSV. These approaches build on con
cepts of data integration\, such as incorporating mobility and individual
travel history in phylogeography\, but pose challenges in terms of scalabi
lity. Finally\, I will demonstrate how virus genomes from old samples may
contribute to our understanding of historical epidemics\, and that reconst
ructions of deep evolutionary histories require dedicated molecular clock
 models.
