DESCRIPTION:The immune system faces an information transfer pr
oblem in appropriately directing T-cell responses
in the lymph node\; a site distal to immune challe
nges. Contextual information relevant to antigens
must be encoded and transmitted to T-cells to allo
w diverse responses to occur within the same lymph
node ensuring both robust immune response generat
ion alongside maintenance of tolerance. The comple
xity of this problem becomes particularly apparent
when the diversity of the cell types involved in
directing T-cell responses are considered with man
y residing within the lymph node and never directl
y encountering antigens within their tissue contex
 t. Using models of both infection and cancer devel
opment we have investigated how tissues communicat
e with the lymph node to solve this conundrum.\n\n
