DESCRIPTION:Mike Kim\, author of "Escaping North Korea" and founder of "Cr
 ossing Borders"\, will be talking about his work with North Korean refugee
 s in China.\n\nTens of thousands of North Koreans\, having fled famine and
  dictatorship\, now live illegally in China. But China considers them econ
 omic migrants\, and it's policy is to track down the refugees and repatria
 te them to North Korea\, which throws them into prison camps or even execu
 te them. A high percentage of the North Koreans hiding in China are women\
 , who are sold to Chinese men as brides.\n\nKim's Crossing Borders works w
 ith locals to provide safe houses and orphanages. He operated undercover -
 - Beijing has jailed other Americans for the "crime" of helping refugees. 
 Kim has also led some North Koreans to freedom via a clandestine 6000 mile
 s underground railroad that ferries refugees across China to a third count
 ry. He has interviewed hundreds of North Koreans and in his book he recoun
 ts their experiences of famine\, defection\, sex-trafficking\, and torture
