DESCRIPTION:The local-global conjectures predict a strong relationship bet
ween certain representations of a finite group and its local subgroups. Si
nce many of these conjectures have been reduced to questions about finite
simple groups the representation theory of these groups turns more and mor
e into focus. For simple groups of Lie type\, quasi-isolated blocks form a
n important class of blocks. In this talk we will therefore discuss the st
ructure of these blocks for groups and applications to the Alperin-McKay c
 onjecture.
