DESCRIPTION:Conducting experiments at high Reynolds numbers can be very ch
allenging\, as they typically require extreme conditions. A result is ofte
n that we are limited in our ability to study these flows by the instrumen
tation available. In this talk\, I will review why this is the case and pr
esent some novel approaches to address these challenges. The two most comm
on ways to achieving high Reynolds numbers are field experiments and extre
me lab experiments. Both classes of experiments come with their own challe
nges and limitations\, which will be addressed from an instrumentation poi
nt of view. Results will be presented from the SLTEST facility (field) and
  from the Superpipe (lab).
