DESCRIPTION:We consider a subdiffusion problem where the fract
ional time derivative is approximated either by th
e L1 scheme or by convolution quadrature and deriv
 e a posteriori error estimates. &nbsp\;Our approac
h is based on appropriate pointwise representation
s of the numerical schemes as perturbed evolution
equations and on stability estimates for the evolu
tion equation. Extensive numerical experiments ind
icate the reliability and the optimality of the es
timators for the schemes considered\, as well as t
heir efficiency as error indicators driving adapti
ve mesh selection locating singularities of the pr
 oblem.\n&nbsp\;\nJoint work with: Charalambos G. M
