DESCRIPTION:We will start by defining quivers\, which are dire
cted graphs\, and their representations. Afterward
s we will motivate why quiver representations are
natural to study in representation theory and alge
braic geometry. We will then state Gabriel's theor
em about representations of quivers of ADE type\,
which gives us a connection to the theory of Lie a
lgebras. Afterwards we will explore different alge
bras associated to a quiver. We will touch on a se
lection of the following topics: The Ringel-Hall a
lgebra of a quiver and its relation to the positiv
e part of the quantum group\, definition of the co
homological Hall algebra (CoHA) of a quiver in ter
ms of equivariant cohomology\, concrete descriptio
n of the multiplication of the CoHA and first exam
ples. This talk should not have too many prerequis
ites\, in particular\, no knowledge about quivers
is assumed. Some knowledge about Lie algebras and
algebraic geometry is useful to understand some of
the motivations.
