SUMMARY:Rothschild Lecture: The mathematical universe behind deep neural
 networks - Helmut Bölcskei (ETH Zürich)
DTSTART:20211210T160000Z
DTEND:20211210T170000Z
UID:TALK165163@talks.cam.ac.uk
DESCRIPTION:Deep neural networks have led to breakthrough results in numer
 ous practical machine learning tasks such as image classification\, image
 captioning\,&nbsp\;control-policy-learning to play the board game Go\, and
  most recently the prediction of protein structures. In this lecture\, we
 will attempt a journey through the mathematical\nuniverse behind these pra
 ctical successes\, elucidating the theoretical underpinnings of deep neura
 l networks in functional analysis\, harmonic analysis\, complex analysis\,
  approximation theory\, dynamical systems\, Kolmogorov complexity\, optima
 l transport\, and fractal geometry.&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;
