DESCRIPTION:We will begin by introducing Hopf algebras togethe
r with the easiest examples - group algebras and t
heir duals - before giving an overview of the clas
 sification attempt for finite-dimensional complex
semisimple Hopf algebras. We will then go on to de
scribe more interesting constructions - bicrossed
and bismash products - which can be defined using
any finite group with a given factorisation into t
rivially intersecting subgroups\, and explain a wa
y of studying bismash products using character the
ory. We will look at a particular family of bismas
h products arising from factorisations of the proj
ective general linear group over a finite field\,
before examining what happens if the factorized gr
 oup we started is a) a semidirect product\, b) a F
 robenius group.
