DESCRIPTION:The group-VI chalcogen sulfur has long been renown
ed for its structural diversity in virtually every
pressure and temperature regime it has been studi
ed. Here\, I present eight new phases of solid-sta
 te elemental sulfur at multi-megabar pressures\, o
btained from an ab-inito random structure search (
AIRSS). These new phases have fascinating structur
al and electronic properties\, and range from supe
rconducting with a near-record Tc among the elemen
ts\, to completely non-superconducting with signif
icant charge localisation. Amongst the newly disco
vered structures is an incommensurate host-guest (
HG) phase of the Barium-IV type\, which lies withi
n experimentally accessible pressures\, and to whi
 ch we devote significant discussion.\n\n\nAssociat
