DESCRIPTION:Inhomogeneous drying conditions result in Marangoni flows and
instabilities with a free-surface deformation. Surface tension of multi-co
mponent solutions depend on both temperature and composition\, and a local
inhomogeneous heat and mass transfer lead to mass flow and film defects.
In order to investigate the flow field within thin films\, a new measureme
nt technique (3D μPTV) has been developed. This measurement technique giv
es unique insights\, which will allow us to identify process parameters cr
ucial to the surface homogeneity of thin films and printed structures. An
overview about former results and new results will be presented with a foc
us on stability analysis and a critical Marangoni number and new correlati
on.\n\n\nWe are delighted that the BPI seminars will be delivered in-perso
n and via Zoom going forward beginning this Thursday\, although limited nu
mbers able to attend in person.\n\nTo book an in-person seat at the semina
r this Thursday please use the link below - please note that once the numb
er is reached you will not be able to register. There will also be a selec
tion of individually wrapped sandwich lunches for everyone who is attendin
 g in-person.\n\nhttps://stokes.cceif.group.cam.ac.uk:1763/seminarreg/16200
7\n\nFace coverings are expected to be worn on arrival at the BPI Institut
e AND during the seminar and in all communal areas. Face coverings should
only be removed once you have collected lunch and are back at your seat. P
lease also note that for ventilation windows in the Open Plan Area must re
 main open at all times.
