.theiet.org/f5a6fc\n\nThe CEO and founder of NVID
IA\, Jensen Huang\, described the artificial intel
ligence revolution as “a once in a lifetime opport
unity” to show leadership in the field. The archi
tecture of a graphics processing unit is uniquely
well-suited to performing the computational tasks
used for running AI models. Several years of inte
nse engineering development have resulted in a com
plete hardware and software platform for AI resear
 ch\, development\, and large-scale deployment. We
will look at NVIDIA’s strategy to address the mos
t difficult computing challenges\, and the solutio
ns we have developed. The Cambridge-1 AI supercom
puter is a concrete example of the capability. Th
is system\, which will be available for U.K. healt
hcare researchers to work on pressing problems\, i
s located at Kao Data\, a data centre using 100 pe
rcent renewable energy. Cambridge-1 would rank amo
ng the world’s top three most energy-efficient sup
 ercomputers.\n \nTimothy Lanfear manages NVIDIA’s
European solution architecture and engineering tea
 m. He has twenty-five years’ experience in HPC\,
starting as a computational scientist in British A
erospace’s corporate research centre\, and then mo
ving to technical pre-sales roles with Hitachi\, C
learSpeed\, and most recently NVIDIA. He has a deg
ree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD for resear
ch in the field of graph theory\, both from Imperi
al College London. He is a Chartered Engineer and
Member of the Institution of Engineering and Techn
 ology.\n
